About Us & Our History

in 1952, the Army Corps of Engineers began construction of the dam. While construction was taking place a man by the name of Frank Smith, saw an opportunity for Belton and opened ”Frank’s Lakeview Inn”, in 1954, which we now know as ”Dead Fish Grill”!

Later he opened Frank’s Marina, giving people the opportunity to boat and fish on Lake Belton.

After a fire to the restaurant, Frank built it bigger and better than the original, even including a night club he called ”The Anchor Club”. Both of these establishments successfully operated for the next 30 years until Frank passed away.

In 2005, a group of local investors quickly came together to purchase Frank’s Marina and Lakeview Inn with intentions to continue his legacy and remain Central Texas’ best lake side establishment. Thus, Dead Fish Grill opened it’s doors in 2008!
